I'm open to self hosted or commercial products. I start the content server in Calibre and get the url and port number. Also, since like the audiobooks, my ebooks are stored locally, I would love a way to download the book locally like we can do in Prologue. But, there are some glitches getting the actual e-reader portion to work, and when it does work, it lacks a lot of features (the text has very large margins on all four sides, and there is no way to increase the font size as it is very small). If that doesn't suit you, our users have ranked more than 100 alternatives to calibre and many of them are available for iPad so hopefully you can find a suitable replacement. The best iPad alternative is MuPDF, which is both free and Open Source. I was able to show Safari, pin the site to the Home Screen, then re-hide Safari. calibre is not available for iPad but there are plenty of alternatives with similar functionality.

I'm introducing my 9 year old with his first iPad, and I've already got a separate Audiobook library for kids audiobooks and it works great for him. calibre for iOS calibre itself does not run on the iPhone/iPad, but you can connect to calibre running on your Mac, read books and manage your library on the iDevice.
